Gas turbine cogeneration plant (Lecco, Italy)

CAP Service has provided this facility for the automation of process control panelsand all the control software. The system consists of a: gas turbine of 6,300 kW, a gas recovery boiler which produces steam, heated water through a battery placed in the rear and two steam generators to produce steam.

The control process is carried out with two Siemens S7 400 PLC connected inhot-backup via optical fiber. This PLC, in redundant profibus network, the auxiliary signals I/O stations , control power panels with all the different devices including inverters with Profibus interface card, and various measuring devices in field (DIRIS, Endress + Hauser). It ‘has also been installed and connected to an Ethernet network another PLC Siemens that deals with all third-party devices installed in the plant where there is no redundancy of communication (communications with others 2 PLC Siemens S7 , 2 PLC Caldaie and 1 PLC S5).


As an operator interface was installed a monitoring system consisting of two PCs and monitors based on the four-Wonderware Intouch SCADA package capable of handling the many variables of the process to be terminated. In the supervisor system are stored all plant the control data and made all the production report requested by the client. The two computers for redundancy are continuously linked to the database by a mutual update. The main PLC was also set to manage directly a GSM modem, in this way every alarm and status send an alert Text message to the phone numbers configured on the supervisor.
